Most of these photos were provided by Geoffrey Allen. Geoffrey’s family is related by marriage to Minna Warburton, daughter of John Paul Warburton, who married Francis Wimberley. There are further photos in the book Controller of Devils, PDFs of which are linked from the Papers page.
Two of the pictures appeared in Issue 10 of The Button Files.
John Paul Warburton, The Controller of Devils. John Paul was born Jan Dad Khan and was said to be the son of Shah Jahan Begum’s first husband Sirdar Faiz Talab Khan a high official of Amir Dost Mohammad,. However the Amir fled from Kabul with a large retinue at the beginning of August 1839, a week before the British arrived there, and more than a year before John Paul was born, so he is almost certainly the son of the The Begum’s second husband, Colonel Robert Warburton.

The mother of John Paul and Robert is seated between two of her servants.
John Paul’s eldest daughter. It appears she was baptised as Mary Ann but was always known as Durani, which was her grandmother’s family name.
John Paul’s daughter Minna Edith Warburton, who married Francis Gordon Arabin Wimberley.
Minna is shown in the second row, second from the right with her father-in-law’s family.
John Warburton, who took the three photos of Warburton Station whilst in the Punjab on business, made clever use of the station name to introduce a presentation.
The station at Warburton in the Punjab. The town was built on a piece of land granted to John Paul by the Indian Government, probably around the time of George V’s Coronation Durbar in 1911.
